Community Service

Community Service Committee Chairperson: Juliette Poirier

The Young Business Leaders of CT believe in supporting their communities.  Since the inception of the group in 2007 the YBL has grown its presence in the community quite quickly.  Whether its with other organizations in the area, or a solo project, the YBL can be found with its hands in many community initiatives.  Some include:

  • Strike Out Hunger- This event is held twice a year, once before Thanksgiving and once before Easter.  Its mission is simple; strike out hunger.  The group gathers with friends and colleagues to spend an afternoon bowling for a cause.
  • Adopt-a-Book Program- This program, run in conjunction with the Meriden Public Library, was formed to assist the library in growing its list of available books.
  • Dan M. Hunter Community Service Education Award- The YBL presents an annual education award to at least one outstanding student from an area high school who has shown exemplary work in the community.  It's given in honor of Dan Hunter.
  • YBL Mini Golf Tournament- In conjunction with the Dan M. Hunter Education Award, the YBL created an unique fundraiser; a golf tournament with a twist.  Unlike your traditional outdoor golf tournament, this event is held indoors and is enjoyed by people of all ages.
  • High School Career Fairs- The YBL has participated in and exhibited at several local high school career fairs with the goal of sending the message that a young person can be successful in this community.
  • Mayor's Clean-up Day- This program, run by the Mayor's office in the City of Meriden, is held twice a year.  Since the inception of the YBL, the group has participated in all the Mayor's clean-ups.  Click here for the most recent flyer.
  • Easter Egg Hunt- Run by Brother's Pool, this event is held in April.  Hundreds of children are given the opportunity to search for Easter Eggs, take pictures with the Easter Bunny, and enjoy refreshments.  The YBL helped Brother's in all areas for this event.
  • United Way Adopt-a-Family- Each holiday season the YBL participates in the United Way's Adopt-a-Family program.  For more information on this program, click here.
  • Spirit of Giving- In the city of Meriden the emergency services come together at the holidays to help those in need.  A group of volunteers, including YBL members, join together to bring families and individuals throughout the Meriden area clothes, furniture, gifts, and anything that they are in need of.  The group also honors those who have lost a loved one in a tragedy in the previous year.  This event is quite moving for all those involved.
  • Prom Promise- The YBL helped bring back Prom Promise to the area high schools by volunteering to staff the sign-up booths.

The Young Business Leaders is committed to continuing its presence in the community.  We are open to new ideas, projects, and initiatives so please don't hesitate to contact us.  We thank all of those who have helped us do our small part to make our community a better place.
