Dan M. Hunter Community Service Education Award

Starting in 2009, the Young Business Leaders will be giving at least one community service based education award each year. 

The message the YBL hopes to pass along with this award is simple.  Community service matters.  While the award-winning student will be chosen on academics and participation in school related activities, an emphasis will be put on their involvement in community projects. 

One of the overall objectives of the YBL is to get the message out that coming back to the community where you grew up, or lived, can lead to a successful career.  This award is one step in that direction.

Dan Hunter

When the idea of naming the Community Service Award after Dan Hunter was presented to the board of the YBL, the decision to make it happen didn’t take long.  While Dan was an integral part of his business, and spent long hours ensuring its success, he still found time for his community.  He taught us all an important lesson in how to give back, while still having a great family, circle of friends, and business. 

“Service Above Self” is a philosophy that Dan believed in, and lived.  Through the presentation of this award, Dan’s message will get passed along each and every year.
