Strike Out Hunger

Twice a year the YBL hosts an event to help feed the hungry.  Before Thanksgiving and Easter, members along with friends, family, and collueges join for an afternoon of bowling for a cause.  Held at Colony Lanes in Wallingford, each of the first 50 people to bring 5 or more non-perishable food items get to bowl for FREE. 

• THANKSGIVING-  The YBL started its Strike Out Hunger program in November of 2008, where it raised over 450 food items for local pantries.  It also collected a few dollars from the participants and purchased 21 turkeys of over 20lbs.  These were also donated to local pantries.

• EASTER-  WIth the first Strike Out Hunger being a huge success the YBL decided to host another one in March of 2009, this time donating before Easter.  As the group thought of ways to increase its collection, the idea was formed to march in the local St. Patrick's Day parade and collect cans from the onlookers.  At the bowling event, a few dollars were collected from the participants again and the group purchased over 25 hams to deliver to the local pantries.  In all, over 1,400 food items were donated.
